My favourite song of 2021 so far

Updated: Mar 1, 2021

WARNING: I do not own the right to SHINee 'Don't Call Me', but I still want to support them so I will put the link to the MV below go and watch it. And go an listen to more SHINee songs you will feel good.

Of all the new releases I have seen this year so far from NCT, HyunA, Epik Hight and Sunmi. My favourite must be The Kings, SHINee, ‘Don’t Call Me’.

With this being the office return of SHINee since three of the members have been in the army, I have been looking forward to them coming back and I'm not disappointed with what they have come back with. At the point in time of me writing this I have not listened to the whole album, only the title track.

Some of my favourite parts are.

The English-speaking king, Key starting the song with

“Don’t call me (Check this out yo’ll) Don’t call me (I don’t want you back, don’t call me) Don’t call me (I keep saying, there is no next time In your life) Don’t call me Don’t call (Yeeaow)”

On a side note, Key has the best English-speaking voice in K-Pop to me, it is one of the most recognisable voice and he sound good when speaking.

The next thing I like about this song and music video is the fashion. They all look really good in this video.

I like the outfits when they are wearing the berets, Key’s black jumper and his white and blue one, Owen’s first outfit when he is sitting in the train station at the beginning, Taemin’s first outfit with the headband/bandanna, Minho’s suit when he is in the floating furniture scenes looks really good, Taemin’s black turtleneck and grey coat is another nice look and Key’s all red look kind of reminds me of Adam Ant for some reason.

Another thing I like about the video is the sets. I cannot really think of a K-Pop music video that takes place inside an abandoned train station. I also like the brief flash you see of Taemin floating in the air with the light/candles or another brief flash of a train tracks and tunnel when they transition before the dance brake at the end. I like that they use the train station in two different ways, with the lights on and off giving it different vibes. I also like the clothes the backing dancers wear, I think it fits in nicely with the street wear the members are wearing.

I also like the like detail at the end when ‘Don’t Call Me’ comes up the apostrophe is a 7, as a node to this being their seventh album.

I really like the song, I cannot think of any other SHINee songs that sound like this, if you can comment below, I would love to know.

The choreography looks simply on first watch but if you watch fan-cams you can see that there is a lot of little details.

In conclusion this is my favourite song released so far and I think it is a good song for SHINee to have as their comeback title track and I am incredibly happy to have them back together.

The fact that SHINee has been around and they still have not put out a bad song is what makes SHINee Kings.

I have been a fan of them for a while and I will continue to love and support them, and I hope you do to.
